My name is Bylli Crayone (Pronounced: Billy Kray-Oh-nee). I am a dance music fanatic from Lawrence, MA. USA. In the 80s my passion was music. I grew up listening to everything from Cyndi Lauper and Boy George to Run DMC and Areosmith. As a teen in the 80s, I was always writing songs and recording demos. But nothing serious became of it. Over the years, music has remained my passion. Its a way of life for me.
Well, Some 20+ years later, I have become friends with many of the artists I grew up listening to. It started as a webmaster thing where I would build and maintain sites for artists like LISA LISA, THE FAT BOYS and THE JETS just to mention a few. I became really close with LISA LISA (Yes, that LISA LISA of Cult Jam). She became my mentor and best friend. It started with a simple Meet & Greet at one of her shows and the friendship took off from there. Anyhow, being an indie artist I started an indie label. Hoping that I could record an album and release it myself. So I started recording some stuff I had already penned. Then one day I asked THE FAT BOYS if it would be possible to do a collaboration. They said sure, pay us this certain amount and we will do it. Well, needless to say, it never happened. I could not come close to what they were asking. So in the back of my head I assumed a dream collaboration was next to impossible.
Then one morning I was telling LISA LISA what they told me and she was like "I Would Never Charge You To Do a Song With Me". So that put a BIG SMILE on my face. She then gave me some advice and said that I know so many artists of the 80s, why dont I hit them up and see who would be down to record. Whats the worst that could happen? A No. and... Well, so thats what I did. The magic happened. It was all coming together. I recorded with some of the biggest names from the 80s. Everyone from Boy George and Samantha Fox to Nu Shooz and Tiffany. It was something out of dreamland. However, it really happened. It was a dream come true. In fact, my single 'ITS OKAY BOY' with TIFFANY is a dance club favorite. The maxi-release came out and fans seem to be loving it. My ultimate goal is to release the album properly with at least 2,000 copies on CD and 500 copies of Limited Edition Vinyl LPs. Its to get in the mood of the whole '80s Thing'. It would be the ultimate dream come true. Now, some may think, you got these artists working with you, arent they helping you? The answer is no. The deal was they would record with me and I would have to take it from there. Meaning I would do all the promoting, releasing, etc. So I basically wrote all the songs myself, found my own producers to work with and am doing all the promotion myself.
Its not easy, but for the love of music - I do this. I know that this album would create a huge buzz if the right media people know about it. So I am also seeking materials to create press kits to forward to them. Emails can only do so much and I feel they are being ignored. So now its time to go old school and send it out in the snail mail. I have received a lot of positive responses from what I have done so far by people like Gloria & Emilio Estefan and MTV's Downtown Julie Brown who now works for TMI on Billboard.com. They know about it, like it but thats it. I need major press on this. So if I get the donations I need to get this released properly with the proper materials for press kits I believe the world will soon know of Bylli Crayone.
