Who am I?

Hi, my name is Karl Mullen. I work as a professional freelance musician and piano teacher. I run several bands, based in the North of England. I play around 250 gigs every year, in Soul bands, jazz bands, and as a solo pianist, mostly in the UK.

For the last few years I've been fascinated by travel, particularly Africa, where I've visited Mozambique and South Africa, and toured Ghana (from bottom to top and back again!) with a band on a cultural exchange, playing and learning from African musicians.

My latest project is to visit Nicolas Robinson School in Mekele, Ethiopia, as a voluntary teacher this coming January/February. The school is run by Rainbows for Children, an independent foundation set up in memory of Nicolas Robinson providing education for children in Ethiopia, primarily the children of adults with disabilities.

As well as teaching and helping out at the school full-time for four weeks, I intend to buy some instruments and equipment to donate to the school, as they are building up their music department from scratch.

What do I need?

I need help towards the expenses of this trip, particularly the cost of buying instruments and equipment, and the extra baggage costs.

Any funding received over the target amount will be donated directly to the Nicholas Robinson School, Mekele, Ethiopia.  

What can you get?

In return for a minimal pledge, I am offering cds and piano lessons; and from £50 upwards, private engagements as a pianist and with the bands.
