We're Purvaai. A small but perfectly formed design and marketing company supplying home linen and personal accessories inspired by traditional arts and crafts.
We believe in giving talented young people an opportunity to showcase their talent to the industry experts. We support creativity and originality in design which leads to gorgeous products. If you support this ideology then this is your chance to make a difference.
Last year, we ran our first ever 'Textile Design Competition' for UK-based art and design students and recent graduates. The designers participate not just for the guts and glory but also for prize money and bragging rights, since we put the winning entries into production and give credit to the designers in all our communication.
This is our way of helping talented young designers burst onto the scene, to get them noticed by industry influencers and the media and give them a great start in their careers.
This year our competition theme is ‘Naturally Yours’ deriving inspiration from nature in all its abundance for colours, motifs, patterns and fibres. With this theme we also hope to provide design students with an impetus to focus their creative energies on ethical and sustainable fashion which not only draws inspiration from Nature, but also helps nurture it.
For our first ever competition last year, we received excellent support from the industry – with our judges’ panel comprising experienced designers, retailers, bloggers and academia. Likewise, we have a great panel of judges lined up for the competition in 2013 too - Nicola Holden – an interior designer and an associate of the British Institute of Interior Design, Toolika Gupta – Academician with a special interest in the history of Textiles, Joanne Walker – Proprietor of curated, natural, handmade home linen company ‘Pure Lana’, and Freddie Oke – Proprietor of independent South London home furnishings store ‘Do South’.
The competition is ajudged completely independently of Purvaai’s promoters and employees, so the winners are truly selected by the industry.
The funds we collect here will go towards marketing the competition to various universities and design colleges in the UK, the prize money and organising a gala awards ceremony in London.
