Pacific Climate Voyage

For many years we dreamt of a project that would inspire communities to meet the challenge of climate change and begin the path to a sustainable future.

The Pacific Islands are among the most vulnerable places on earth to global warming. Carbon emissions from the world's developed countries are threatening the societies, economies and ecosystems of Micronesia, Polynesia and beyond. Rising seas and storm are bringing loss of land and robbing whole nations of their future.

In 2007 my friend Ini began building a traditional Pacific voyaging craft - a proa - with the dream of sailing through the Pacific, highlighting the impacts of climate change and helping showcase the beauty and traditional wisdom of Pacific cultures.

Five years in the making, we are now almost ready to set sail. The boat, the world's largest sail-powered proa and an exemplar of sustainable design, is complete. We need just a few more funds for food, fuel, cameras and safety gear.

We believe firmly in our collective power to create a sustainable, happy, peaceful future. While the voyage will seek to show the raw realities facing our island neighbours, it will also be a journey of hope, sharing stories of resilience and adaptation among Pacific communities.

Can you help us get this truly unique adventure across the line? We'll put names of all contributors and their personal messages on the hull of the boat. Together we can make a difference!
