Despite an ongoing period of financial challenge and funding upheaval, the UK has a blossoming independent mental health sector outside of traditional public sector services.
Building upon the ground-breaking work of their predecessors in mental health, a vibrant new generation of mental health projects and organisations is breaking new ground.
The New Mental Health, a publication bringing together these ground-breakers in one place, will ask the questions:
- Who are they?
- What are they doing?
- How are they doing it?
- How are they keeping going?
These projects are often led by people who've experienced mental health difficulties themselves. This emerging generation of people with mental health difficulties use their lived experience to break new ground. These organisations have escaped from 'traditional' ideas about mental health and how you deliver services. They combine social entrepreneurial spirit, a refusal to accept that people with mental health difficulties cannot be professionals, political judgment and a thirst for new ideas.
Using examples from across the UK The New Mental Health will define the major currents of this new generation, the successes and challenges they've had, how and why they do what they do and what lessons other organisations can draw from them.
The New Mental Health will be an essential guide the most exciting and interesting mental health organisations and projects across the UK and a valuable sourcebook of ideas, inspiration and practical guidance for anyone already running a project or wanting to make a change in mental health for themselves.
Social Spider CIC, the social enterprise that publishes mental health magazine One in Four, needs your support to help give this important sector the higher profile it deserves.
