The ArtReach Nanoplex is an experimental moving-image gallery housed with a converted family caravan. Our state of the art surround sound projection room creates a truly unique and immersive experience, providing up to ten viewers at a time with an exclusive insight into the world of digital arts. Welcome to the world’s smallest moving-image gallery!
We have created a special Festival concept – Night of Festivals – in order to celebrate freedom and democracy through the presentation of challenging and exciting new artworks, encompassing a wide range of disciplines. We plan to stage Night of Festivals 2012 (see www.nightoffestivals.com) in the high profile Old Market Square, Nottingham from 21-23 June.
With your support, we'd like to curate a new programme of short moving image pieces made by artists from around the world to show in the ArtReach Nanoplex during the Festival.
About the Project
The proposition for Night of Festivals 2012 is a focus on a global celebration of world artists and world freedom (complementing the 2012 welcoming the world to the UK). The opening day of the Festival (21 June) coincides with the opening of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad Festival and the build up to and delivery of the Night of Festivals event will come just before the Torch Relay visits Nottingham.
With your support, we would like to identify and curate an exceptional programme of short, experimental moving-image that reflects the theme of freedom and democracy, and represents artists from six continents – North America and Canada, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia.
The work will be edited into six programmes, each of up to twenty minutes duration, and each focusing on artists from a different continent and culture. This new creative programme will be premiered in the Artreach Nanoplex throughout Night of Festivals 2012 with a continuous programmes of screenings from 11am until 10pm in the evening each day.
This is a quirky, high quality and adventurous project that will attract media and public attention and be accessible to anyone who wishes to participate as an audience member. There will be no charge for people to enter the Nanoplex and see the films but tickets will be issued to ensure attendance can be managed.
Who we are...
ArtReach is a creative cultural development agency set up in order to support and help drive innovative, creative arts projects to succeed. Its commitment is high quality projects that pioneer new ways of working; stretch artistic boundaries; and that encourage audience development, forging new ways of community and individual engagement.
About Night of Festivals
In 2010 ArtReach developed an extraordinary partnership encompassing Embassies of Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and Chile, ACE, Nottingham City Council, Nottingham arts organisations and Latin American artists (all disciplines) in order to create/deliver Night of Festivals 2010 from 16-18 September, enjoyed by 30,000 people in Old Market Square, Nottingham and by thousands through TV, online coverage and documentary dissemination.
The concept for Night of Festivals (the overarching brand) was devised by ArtReach, and emerged organically from the aspiration to develop a special event to celebrate the Bicentenary of Latin American independence from Spain in 2010. The intent was to celebrate freedom through the presentation of challenging, stimulating and exciting new artworks encompassing a wide range of disciplines (including new media). In 2011 the momentum has been maintained through delivery of a smaller scale Night of Festivals Box of Tricks event in which the Nanoplex made its first appearance.
