1831 - Merthyr - black with smoke belching from the furnaces that fired the town’s iron works but with even greater flames ablaze in the hearts of the people. A political protest turned into a riot that was brutally suppressed by the authorities. In the aftermath of the riot Richard Lewis (aka Dic Penderyn) was arrested, tried and convicted of a crime he did not commit. Dic Penderyn, an ordinary man of conviction and integrity carried along by the wheels of history in extraordinary times, became the first martyr of the Welsh working class. Now he becomes the central character in a new musical with a beautiful and powerful score.

HOW WILL YOUR DONATIONS BE SPENT? The money we receive will be spent primarily on venue hire and studio time. Studio time in particular is very expensive, but in order to create a quality product it is essential. We want to insure that this is a project you will be proud to have your name attached to. In reality this project will cost a lot more than our goal of £4000. We considered this a reachable goal in the amount of time we had. We hope to raise more than this because in actuality it will most likely cost more to complete this venture. When we take into account the studio time, CD and booklet production and printing, venue hire etc, we will clearly need as much financial help as possible. So if it looks like we have reached our goal please still help us. We will be eternally grateful. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE FINISHED CD? The finished CD will go on sale over the Internet and in theatre shops in London. Any profit raised will go towards chasing a workshop of the complete production in London with a view to a live production of the whole musical. We will also be sending the CD to producers and theatres across the UK. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this information.
