Slanteddance company are a fully operational dance company living and working in the region, with a particular focus on making professional work for community and educational settings and working for, and with, young people.
Since April 2009 slanteddance have provided performances and workshops to varied groups in contrasting settings, working with and performing to over 1500 people from across the County. By undertaking this work in schools, theatres and community groups the two Partners of slanteddance have experienced the positive impact that dance performances and workshops have on a cross section of society.
Slanteddance company have created a fun and quirky piece of dance theatre called 'Little Monsters'. The piece is based on the popular children's book "The Huge Bag of Worries" by Virginia Ironside. Little Monsters steps into the busy school day of Tom who is pursued by an ever growing bag, of what appears to be monsters. As Tom progresses through his day he faces lots of events that lead to him realising the importance of friendship and communication. The trio of versatile and energetic dancers explore the life of a kid who is pursued by an ever growing bag, of what appears to be monsters. Little monsters fuses an eclectic mix of music and dance styles to create an explosion of street, hip hop, contemporary and lyrical dance making it a winner for all the family.
To put on a professional performance there are certain costs involved such as;
Rehearsal studio
Studio costs on average £25 ph and these are vital for our rehearsal and development and final rehersals.
Production Costs
Our production involves the need for some basic set, costume and props to create our fun and quirky characters including the Little Monsters. As our work aims to appeal to all the family, we also use lighting and sound to create a theatrical experience that is energetic and exciting for all the family. Hiring in equipment is therefore important, and this of course, has a cost.
Marketing
We are lucky enough to have the support of the Norwich County Council for some of our marketing costs but funds for exposure through website and social media, in local print publications, through poster / leaflet distribution and on the local radio will be crutial to the project.
The production will begin its tour in June 2012, performance dates ranging from outdoor festivals to large performance venues. We hope that in sharing our children's dance theatre production locally, so we will allow professional dance to reach a wider audience spectrum. 'Little Monsters' aims to give hope for creative and social change among all those involved. The trio performance will explore the themes of the book; showing the consequence of bottling up our worries and concerns. The project is aimed to make a positive and inspiring impact on families, children and young people in community settings.
“A book to help children confide their worries in other people. The heroine is pursued by a sinister bag of worries which she can’t get rid of. Used extensively in schools.” (http://www.virginiaironside.org)
Through presenting a series of community performances it strives to build self awareness, promoting the importance of friendship, communication and sense of community.
This project is our first full length professional performance and we would appreciate any support you can give. Many thanks.
The owner of this project has not made any updates yet.
