Our Story

Two tech geeks go on a quest for the ultimate piece of technology in a Lord of the Rings for the Google Generation. Visit the Latitude website for more information

Max and Percy, the unlikely heroes in our story, are tech geeks through and through. As best friends since school they spend all of their spare time, and much of their work time, involved in a modern day treasure hunting game called Geocaching, in which participants use GPS to hide and seek containers that are hidden across the globe.

Percy is an awkward IT man, he works in a computer store, and thinks he knows everything, with character traits based on a Windows PC. Max is a hipster-geek-apple-fanboy who worships everything Apple do and has many of the characteristics of the brand he models his life by. He claims to be a blogger but really he is on the dole.

Their best friend, Linux, died in a mysterious geocaching incident and the guys discover why when they are visited by an enigmatic ‘technological God’ (whose character is modelled on Steve Jobs). He tells them about a piece of dangerously powerful technology that was created in the early 1980s. This piece of technology is so powerful, and dangerous, that he had to hide it from the human race back in 1983.

The problem is, that since that time, a few other ‘evil’ companies (modelled on Google, Facebook etc), with their hearts set on technological domination and power, have rediscovered the secret and want to find it so that they can use it to take over the world. As the chosen ones, Max and Percy must stop them by going on a modern day treasure hunt- that spans two continents- to find a series of hidden objects that will unlock the code to the greatest piece of technology the world has ever known.

The Impact

There are over 1.5 million active geocaches with over 5 million members at the geocaching.com community that recorded over 4.5 million logins in the last 30 days. Its a popular and fascinating hobby that is just crying out for a film.

The aim is to make the film available for free online and to use new emerging methods of distribution. We'll also hide the film in a series of geocaches so that enthusiasts can recreate and engage in the film in innovative and new ways.

What We Need & What You Get

* We need this money to cover getting our 2 actors out to California, the equipment hire, travel costs, accommodation for the actors and their other filmmaking costs. Anything you donate will go towards these costs so even if we don't reach the intended target the rest will be funded by ourselves, that's how passionate we are about this project!!

* All the money gets put into the film, the crew are not getting paid and are funding their own travel costs to California. Lots of media professionals are also kindly donating their time to make this happen.

* We are currently in talks with some major companies in regards to sponsorship of the film (Mini/BMW for example have agreed to support the project as an Associate Producer - Level 8 Opposite - in exchange for some video work for their website

* We are also looking for in-kind support of that will help us to make this happen, so are looking for companies who would be interested in product placement in the film (it might be of particular interest to technology companies and gps comapnies for example). Anything they offer will go towards production, be it money, props, locations or items to use within the film. If you are interested in something along those lines then please feel free to contact us at pete@latitudethemovie.com

* We have a list of perks on the right hand side as a little thank you for making the project happen

* For the bigger investors we will also help you to make a film project happen (our team has a range of expertise in producing videos for a number of high profile charities, companies and organisations). So this could be an effective way to make something happen for you. If you are interested in this please select level 7 and level 8 and we will contact you about moving forward with this or alternatively email pete@latitudethemovie.com for more details

Other Ways You Can Help

We have our Website, Twitter and Facebook pages if you want any more info on our project. If you wish to contact us then please do so at pete@Latitudethemovie.com.

The story so far....

Thanks to all of our supporters who are helping to make this project happen.

So far we have raised over £1300 toward covering the costs of the project, with over 30 people donating their hard earned money to the cause. We are eternally grateful to you for making this happen.

For this campaign we need to raise £5000 which will go toward costs such as hiring equipment, helping to get our actors to California and around the UK as well as helping with loads of other costs associated with making a project of this size.

The project has started to get mentioned in the press now- we've been featured in many of our local newspapers as well as on a some other geocaching and filmmaking related media. To find out more about some of these please visit the news section on our website. You can also stay up to date with us on our Facebook and Twitter sites- please come and say hello.

Along with the money that the crew and sponsors have put in to this project this amount will ensure that we can really make it happen.

We'll be keeping you informed of our progress. Until then it would be extremely helpful if you would like to share our project with your friends, family and colleagues who may also want to get involved

Over the past two months the Latitude crew has been very busy putting the film together and although we didn’t reach our funding target we decided to go ahead with production as planned thanks to some additional last minute sponsors for the film.

Lots has happened in terms of moving the project forward over the past 2 months. We have filmed most of the script now- taking place over 15 days in the UK and USA- and we are really pleased with the results so far.

If you follow us on Twitter http://twitter.com/#!/latitudemovie and Facebook http://www.facebook.com/LatitudeMovie you can find loads of behind the scenes photos and videos from the shoot. We’ll also be updating the website http://www.latitudethemovie.com/ soon with some of the ‘making of’ films and photos.
