The Story

HERMIT is a short film about a world-famous author who hasn't left her bedroom in 20 years. Shortly after her 28th birthday, she runs out of ideas. Now she must re-enter the world. Welcome to Izzy's slightly surreal and off-kilter world and come along with her as she tries to reconnect with her family. But the Hermit life is not only a fantasy. In Japan, Hikikomori ("Shut-in's") may number up to a million.

We want to explore the universal story of how difficult it is to connect with each other and how easily we shut ourselves in. Sometimes, the real communication happens not in the ways we expect.

The Film

The film will be shot on Super 16 mm film using a stunning cave-like bedroom set with writings on the walls, plus some killer east London locations. We have talented British actors attached, a skilled crew and a fabulous art team devoted to creating Izzy's textual world.

What We Need & What You Get

We already have 15,000 dollars raised but we need your help to complete the project! With your contributions we will be able to send the film to festivals around the world and deliver a DVD to your home.

Your money will fund our post-production costs like film processing, color grading and sending the film to festivals. It will also help us complete set construction and set dressing to bring Izzy's magical world of solitude to visual fruition. Even the littlest bit helps! And please, if you like our story, send the word out to your friends!

See our perks section for the rewards we can offer.
