Happy Angels House Rescue Centre for Cats and Dogs

Giurgiu, Romania

Romania has a terrible situation of stray dogs and cats. Many thousands of strays live in the city streets and countryside of every town, struggling to find enough food, shelter and avoid cruelty and abuse.  In Giurgiu, a small town near the border of Bulgaria, the situation is no different. Every day, hundreds of dogs struggle to survive with little or no help from passers by. Many are injured, starving or terrified.

However; there is a ray of hope. Magda Radu has been operating a rigorous spay and neuter campaign in the town for several years, reducing the numbers of dogs on the streets and offering medical care for the injured and diseased.

Magda also takes dogs from the street and after sterilisation and medical care, they are offered for adoption across Europe. Due to space contraints this has always had to be on a small scale, yet now there is the possibility for more.

Magda has started work on the Happy Angels House, a rescue centre that will allow many more dogs to be kept safe and warm until they are adopted. It will also offer an ideal site from which to run spay and neuter operations.  Extensive work has already taken place on the centre, but more help is needed to finish the project before the harsh winter sets in.  There are very few rescue and adoption centres in Romania and we are hoping this pioneering project will inspire rescuers in other towns to follow suit and build their own places of safety for these beautiful dogs.

Please donate to help Magda finish the Happy Angels House. .

Update on the Shelter Development
Wednesday, 23 November, 2011 - 09:49

As you can see from the photos, the shell of the shelter is pretty much finished. This is a huge part of the project completed and provides a decent floor and roof for all of the animals within. Magda currently has around 60 dogs in her care and they are living at the shelter site already.  However, the shelter pens are not finished and this is what your money will support. Safe indoor and outdoor pens for each group of dogs. Magda cannot add any more dogs to the shelter as some of the dogs do not get along and very large groups of dogs will start to fight for food and space. Magda needs to separate the dogs into small groups that get along well.  Once Magda has finished the pens she will be able to care for around 100 dogs, meaning 40 more dogs are saved from the streets and public shelter. With adoptions still continuing there will be ever more room to house the strays that are so at risk in Giurgiu.

Your £5 donation will DIRECTLY help Magda to finish these pens and complete the shelter. She is so close and has worked so hard to get this far. Please help her finish this last little bit and get the shelter up and running.

Many thanks to those of you who have donated but please keep sharing. We need to reach our target as soon as possible.
