"Lonesome and rejected, Henry stays home to hide.
But there's one time of year he likes to play outside..."
What is The Halloween Kid?
The Halloween Kid is the story of Henry, a lonely boy who loves Halloween. It is a spooky and sweet homage to the holiday, as well as a tale of childhood, loneliness and monsters.
Halloween is writer/director Axelle Carolyn's favorite time of the year, and this film is her way to share with the world what it represents for her. If you too love Halloween, there's a good chance you'll find a bit of yourself in this movie.
With your help, this 5-minute short will be shot over two days on the last weekend of October, in and around London.
Who is involved?
Writer/Director Axelle Carolyn:
Axelle has been a horror fan for as long as she can remember. Brought up on a steady diet of Stephen King novels and Universal monsters movies, she introduced her friends and family to Halloween by organising parties long before most people in her native Belgium had even heard of the holiday.
Axelle started out in the film industry as a Fangoria reporter, before writing an award-winning book on horror - It Lives Again! Horror Movies In The New Millennium -, acting in a series of genre features, and finally directing her first short - The Last Post, starring Jean Marsh - earlier this year.
This summer she also directed a one-minute short, Hooked, which despite being shot in 3 hours and costing $200, was picked up by FearNet.
She is set to direct her first feature in 2012.
Producer/Editor Neil Marshall:
Neil began his career in editing and in 2002, moved on to writing, directing and editing his first feature Dog Soldiers, a cult hit in Europe and in the US. He followed it up in 2005 with critically acclaimed horror The Descent, for which he won two British Independent Film Awards and an Empire Award, amongst other accolades.
Neil went on to write and direct Doomsday in 2008 for Universal and Centurion in 2010 for Pathe.
He will be producing The Halloween Kid with James Webber, of award-winning filmmaking company Fingercuff Productions, and genre filmmaker Ben Robinson (Neon Killer).
Director of Photography Sam McCurdy:
A member of the prestigious British Society of Cinematographers, Sam lensed every one of Neil's movies, as well as Lee Tamahori's The Devil's Double, StreetDance 3D, and Joe Lynch's upcoming Knights of Badassdom. He is currently in Ireland shooting an episode of Game of Thrones.
Special Effects Make-up Designer Paul Hyett:
One of the UK’s leading prosthetics artists, Paul is the go-to guy for great horror effects. He designed creatures and effects on Neil's The Descent, Doomsday and Centurion, as well as on classics London to Brighton, Eden Lake, Red Riding and Harry Brown amongst numerous others. Recently released features include Attack The Block and Ironclad.
Paul also designed effects for Hammer Films’s upcoming release The Woman In Black, and is attached to Axelle’s feature The Haunted.
Music Composer Christian Henson:
One of the UK’s most sought-after composers, Christian is a regular collaborator of genre director Christopher Smith, and has composed scores for his features Severance, Triangle and Black Death. Other works include French holocaust movie La Rafle, UK horror Tormented, and Axelle’s short The Last Post.
Cast:
Julian Glover (The Empire Strikes Back, Troy, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade)
Anna Walton (Hellboy II, Mutant Chronicles)
Where will the film be screened?
Once finished, The Halloween Kid will be entered into all the major horror and mainstream film festivals.
Axelle's first short, The Last Post, is currently enjoying a successful festival tour - including the London FrightFest, Montreal's Fantasia, and Spain's Sitges Festival -, and we hope to achieve the same - if not more! - with this film.
How can you help?
We have a large chunk of our budget already, but we are hoping to raise another £4,000 (about $6,200) to enhance the sets, hire the best possible camera and lighting equipment, and make this little movie look and sound as fantastic as can be.
Please take the time to look at our rewards, we have some unique and exclusive opportunities to offer!
Also, spread the word. We will only reach our goals if enough people become aware of the film and of this campaign...
Thank you!!
Can anyone contribute from anywhere in the world?
Absolutely. Although the listings are in UK pounds, you can invest from anywhere in the world, in your own currency.
A couple of rewards are exclusive to UK-based investors, but if you are based elsewhere and would like to access these anyway, please get in touch. Axelle, Neil and several other crew and cast members travel quite a bit, and there is always a chance that they might be travelling to your area soon.
Thank you for reading... We can't wait to share this journey with you!

Happy Halloween!
Less than 2 days left in our funding campaign! Can we reach 200% of our goal in this time?
To celebrate the nearing end of the campaign, here is... the Halloween Kid himself!

http://thehalloweenkid.wordpress.com/2011/10/06/first-cast-announcement/
We’re extremely excited to announce our first two cast members for The Halloween Kid!
Julian Glover, best known for starring in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, For Your Eyes Only and The Empire Strikes Back, as well as his more recent parts in Troy, Woody Allen’s Scoop, Doctor Who and Game of Thrones, will be joining us!
Also confirmed is Anna Walton, whom you’ve seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Anna played Princess Nuala and brought incredible grace and strength to the role; she will be playing our lead boy’s mother.
We've just released a new concept design, this time by artist and animator Laura Whyte! Head out to our blog to see it:

Keep spreading the word... We need more pumpkins! :)
Looks like we've hit our second milestone, in less than 2 days!! We're absolutely overwhelmed. Thanks so much to all for your generosity, and special thanks to our new Executive Producers Rob Burnett and Daniel Eckhart. I can't wait to add your names to the credits.
Wow, this means we have to set yet another target... Shall we aim high, and go for £10k? This would allow us not only to hire the best camera equipment, but also to put some money into the locations, specifically our hero's bedroom, which is proving pretty hard to find...
In other news, we found our first location yesterday; and tonight, we are visiting a children's acting school, hoping to find a little star in the making!
We'll keep you posted on all those happenings, but in the meantime, keep spreading the word, check http://thehalloweenkid.wordpress.com/ every once in a while (we post daily)... and thank you so much!
In less than 3 days, The Halloween Kid has reached its target! Thank you SO MUCH, all of you, for your support. We at The Halloween Kid are absolutely stunned by your generosity and your faith in this little project.
There are still 27 days to go before the end of this campaign, so let's not give up now! We are raising the funding target to £6,000. The additional money should help us rent better camera equipment (and a steadicam) and make our sets look fantastic. Every penny will go on screen, to make this spooky fairy tale look as eerie and beautiful as can be.
We'll soon be announcing our first cast member, and still have loads of surprises in store - new concept designs, announcements etc.! In the meantime, keep spreading the word, check our blog at http://thehalloweenkid.wordpress.com, and have a happy Halloween season: October is upon us!
