Curious Seed - P U S H

P U S H is a full-length dance theatre production featuring a unique mix of four dancers, an actor/singer, a cellist, a 9-year-old girl, a wall and an Extra/ordinary Ensemble garnered from all walks of life from 9 communities throughout Scotland.

P U S H is an engaging and emotionally compelling show which blends expressive choreography, live and recorded music, poetic text and video images. The world of P U S H is full of contradictions, fears, needs, desires, and poetry in the mundane. A group of people inhabit this timeless place, fragments of their extra/ordinary stories unfold and remind us to question what’s important. What pushes you to move, to say something, to push back?

WHY ARE WE ASKING FOR CROWDFUNDING?

Key to this new work is the contribution of “real” people – their voices, their stories, their lives and their presence. These people have become Curious Seed’s ‘Extra/ordinary Ensembles’. We are currently working with groups from 9 different areas around Scotland: Easterhouse, Stirling, Musselburgh, Inverness, Findhorn, Stornoway, Mull, Aberdeen and Edinburgh! The groups are made up of all ages and abilities - our oldest particpant so far is 70 and our youngest 12. Each ensemble will join the company onstage as part of the performance of P U S H at their local venue adding something very unique and special to each performance. And, if that wasn't challenging enough, each ensemble is creating their own performance in response to the ideas and themes behind P U S H to be performed at the end of March.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Curious Seed have never asked for financial support from their friends and supporters before, but now we need your help.  

We know that nobody has much money to spare just now, and it's hard to ask; however we believe, more than ever, in the positive tranformative experience that being involved in the arts can give to all members of our Ensembles:

• Building confidence on many levels in a safe and supportive forum for self-expression and by the challenge of performing in public.

• The opportunity for non-professional performers to participate in a creative process with an award-winning dance theatre company, contributing their stories and experiences to the making of the piece.

• By volunteering to participate in this project, the participants will make a vital contribution to a high-quality work of art and will explore new skills in communication, dance and performance and gain experience of creating and staging a piece of theatre work

As well as contributing to and helping us to fullfill our creative vision, Curious Seed believe that this kind of local connection with people from the community in each area the company performs in will have a lasting benefit to everyone involved. We feel that there is a need for people to be given more opportunities to develop their own creativity in an artistic context, and the positive effects of dancing and being creative on physical and mental well-being are well documented.  The legacy of this project will leave people with new skills, and new-found confidence on many levels, as well as developing new creative relationships within the communites themselves.

We are now pushing towards the final phase of creating P U S H - we're almost there, but we need a final bit of support!
