Cloughtoberfest 2012

Cloughjordan, Ireland

Cloughtoberfest ran for the first time in 2011, and it was AMAZING!  It brought together the finest Irish Gypsy Jazz bands with top performers from all over Europe for 3 days of knockout concerts, music masterclasses and awe-inspiring jam sessions.  It was all flavoured with a great selection of Irish Craft Beer, highlighting independent micro-breweries from 6 counties.... and boy, were they good.

  The festival was run by Silverwood Ireland, which is really (at the moment) a one-woman show managed by me (Lil).  I wanted to run the festival for a few different reasons;

  I've loved Django Reinhardt and Gypsy Jazz all my life... my uncle was a fan and guitarist... and wanted to share that infectious, upbeat, happy happy music at a time when we all really need it.

  I wanted to promote our amazing Irish gypsy bands to a wider audience.  We have some of the finest musicians in the genre here, yet they remain largely unknown.  There's a big tradition of gypsy festivals all over Europe, and lots of Irish players travel to them.  I reckoned it was time to bring Europe to us!

  I wanted to bring life and much-needed tourism to the beautiful area where I live.... the Irish Midlands, another overlooked treasure.

  As a brand-new event, so therefore an unknown quantity, it was impossible to secure funding.  Well, the only way to show how good it could be was to go ahead and do it, so we went ahead and held a great event with 3 days of concerts, workshops and sessions. The locals fell in love with gypsy jazz, and our visitors (from all over Europe) fell in love with Co. Tipperary... result!  I paid for everything myself, and almost made my money back, so I'm delighted I took the risk.

  All in all, a success story, and now we're being offered funding to do it all again, bigger and better, in 2012.  The only setback is that I have to pay for everything up front first.... and this year's festival has left me stoney broke!   This is where you come in......

  Just €5000.00 will cover all the festival needs to get started and secure that funding. It will be enough for us to book our core performers, and have a concrete programme for our funding applications. For a 4-day programme of concerts and masterclasses, free lunchtime concerts, local artisan beer and food and general good times for around a thousand people, that's not a lot!  But having that to begin with will make the difference between going ahead... or not.

  So please, make a donation, tell all your friends to do the same, and join us for the happiest event of the year.  THANK YOU! :)

   Hi Everyone,

  and especially to all the amazing supporters who have funded us so far... thankyou so much!   Even our performers are helping out (thanks Tim x) which just goes to show how wonderful the spirit of gypsy jazz is.

  I've been quiet for a while, because I've had my head down filling in funding applications... it's that time of year, and the deadlines are nearly all past, the forms are nearly all finished... now we wait, gulp!  As well as our crowd-funders, I have to give a big thankyou to all those who have given interviews and letters of support that will help so much with the applications.  You guys really swing :)

  Meanwhile, there has been a flood of emails from even more incredible bands who want to come along.  WooHoo!  They include;

  the Gypsy Jazz Quartet from Galway, with their multi-media show "The Django Story"  http://www.myspace.com/gypsyjazzquarte

  and from Scotland, The Rose Room  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nDNezyPVk8&feature=related

  How can we turn them away?  So come on folks, please keep spreading the word, let's keep the pledges rolling in and make it happen!

  Watch this space soon for more news of bands who plan to join us in october, and more great music. Ciao for now, Lil :)

Oh Wow! What a day!

  Just 3 weeks to go, and what an amazing day with a sudden rush of sponsors.  A Huge thankyou to all of you, and I'm delighted to see that I'll be handing out some full festival tickets :)

 It's great, too to see that so much support is coming from the local community, and that people obviously got such a blast out of last year's festival.  Here's to you all... every cent you've given puts a little more swing in Cloughtoberfest's step, and a touch more fizz in the beers.... Cheers!

6 Days and Counting!

Hi Everyone,

  and congratulations!  If you've sponsored Cloughtoberfest, you've made an INCREDIBLE difference... there is enough money raised already to ensure that we can make our plans for this year debt-free, and start out on level ground.  So, as always, thankyou xxxxx

  That's all good :)  But of course, it would be even better if we could get closer to our target before the campaign ends, so that we can have a really full-on and fabulous festival this autumn... the more we can raise, the better it can be.

  So if you sponsored us, BE PROUD (you certainly should be!) and TELL EVERYONE!  Let all your friends know what a great festival we have, how amazing crowd-funding is for helping arts and community projects, and most of all that this is their last chance to be part of the buzz by making a pledge... it's now or never!

  Now, I'll get back to designing your lovely VIP passes, and looking forward to seeing you all in October... and I'll let you know when we reach our next milestone.  What do you think?  Could we make it to €1,000.00 by tonight????

  Lil x
