WHAT IS 'CARRIAGES' ABOUT?

James, our protagonist, leads a boring life. He's found himself in a dead end job and can't seem to shake it off. Everything he does follows a routine; each day he wakes up, goes to the same train station, waits at the same platform and catches the same train.

The one thing he does get to look forward to however, is seeing the girl of his dreams. He sees her each day on his commute to work, and she's the most beautiful girl he's ever laid eyes on. She's funny, kind and has a great personality.

At least he assumes so.

The problem is, James is shy, and no matter how hard he tries, he can't find the courage to approach her and make the first move. We follow his journey of awkward and embarrassing attempts at trying to win her heart as he travels to work, which more often than not gets him into all kinds of awkward situations. With the advice from his two closest friends, James is determined to catch the attention of his dream girl.

This is the story of boy meets girl... but with nerves.

Carriages is a short, ten minute film that is to be shot on Super 16mm film. It's a format that's popular in the independent filmmaking community and will benefit the aesthetic style/look of the film immensely! Check back soon for a short clip of work that's help inspire the film.

HOW CAN I HELP PRODUCE THE FILM?

  • The overall goal for this campaign is to raise £3000. Now, the money IS NOT going to me. All funds pledged will go solely into the production of the film. This includes the cost of equipment hire, film stock, cast and crew member payments and securing the use of specific locations. You're probably thinking, "£3000 seems a lot for a short film?" - Well, considering the production costs of most short films, this is a very low budget production.
  • If you do decide to help, then you'll be able to take advantage of a whole list of great rewards as a thank-you for pledging to the project (for instance, a copy of the film on DVD, a HD download of the final film once it's been completed, a producer credit on the film or access to a special behind the scenes blog, just to name a few).
  • The more you donate, the more you get in return. Take a look at the column on the right hand side of the page for the full rewards breakdown.
  • EVERY DONATION HELPS! Whether it's £2 or £100, anything you pledge will put us one step closer to getting the film completed. Without you the project may not see the light of day!

However, you don't have to donate to help the production of the film. SPREAD THE WORD! In this digital day and age, getting information to someone is easier than ever, so if you think you know someone who may be interested in backing the project, please let them know! Facebook, and Twitter are fantastic mediums for getting yourself heard, but old-school technology such as email is useful too! Let your family and friends know about the project and spread the 'Carriages' love!

Alternatively, we're also looking for actors and actresses to star in the film. To view the character breakdown and the online casting call, visit: http://www.castingcallpro.com/uk/job_view.php?uid=131764

ABOUT ME

I'm Adam Palmer and I'm the Writer and Director of 'Carriages'. I've had a passion for film and filmmaking since an early age and thankfully have pursued it as a career. I've been making short films, documentaries and music videos for some time and now I feel is the time to get myself heard. Upon completing this film, I intend to take it to film festivals up and down the UK, and depending on it's success, even further. I have studied filmmaking for 5 years, including 3 years at Staffordshire University.

Not only that, I've also had the opportunity to work with a number of professional production companies, allowing me to develop my skills on a level that's not usually achieveable academically.
