Our Story

This campaign is one of the primary funding platforms for our film. Following the success of earlier crowdfunding campaigns, including the highly successful sci-fi short 'Pod 8', the coastal suspense drama 'Long Delayed Echo' and the acclaimed sport action drama 'The Boxer'. We are aiming to build on our three years at the prestigious Film Production course at the Arts University College Bournemouth to make a well-crafted, engaging debut feature film. While we initially began the project under a “zero budget” mentality, we have come to the realisation that we will need your help to make this film a reality.

Synopsis

Desperate to break away from his lonely life in a seaside town, Internet cafe employee and computer repair man Leo leaps at the opportunity to test his substantial language skills and earn enough money to escape his dreary life. Asked to translate a document for a solicitor, Leo is instead entangled within the mystery that surrounds a fatal plane crash, witnessing it from the beach, fearing that he caused it. Terrified and guilty, he takes the flight recorder from the wreckage and flees in desperation.

Pursued by the authorities, Leo is confronted by Ava, who reveals that she was meant to be on the doomed plane and that she has been investigating the financial dealings of Ellerman Byrd, the rich Hong Kong banker she believes responsible for everything. They vow to clear Leo's name and bring Ellerman to justice, unravelling the clues to the conspiracy contained within the black box along the way. As Leo draws on his language skills to help Ava gather evidence, her toughness and tenacity convinces Leo of his innocence. But Leo also learns of Ava's personal involvement in Ellerman's affairs, which leads to further intrigue, suspense and shocking revelations.

What We Need & What You Get

There are lots of costs associated with filmmaking, and every penny you donate will be put to good use. We appreciate all donations, however big or small. By donating, you could be eligible for a number of perks, that include things ranging from having to your name appear in the credits of the film to a signed Blu-ray copy to important props from the film.

Visually, we want to attain the highest production value we can. Some of your donations will be spent on the hire of professional camera and lighting equipment. Currently we have access to several Canon 5D Mark II cameras, which have been used to shoot several feature films lately, and a full Steadicam rig, owned and operated by our Director of Photography Andy Fletcher. If we raise a substantial amount, however, we will upgrade to a Canon C300, RED or Arri Alexa, depending on how much we get. Money will also go towards production design to help us create a believable and aesthetically pleasing world. Some money will go towards the finding, feeding and accommodating the cast, in order to ensure we can cast actors with integrity, who can deliver captivating performances. Editing, professional colour-grading and detailed sound mixing with be integral to creating a tangible world.

All of this equipment and facilities will be in the hands of our skilled crew, who have experience shooting on film and our other feature productions. Every dollar, pound, euro or yen will be scrutinised and put towards making a better film.

We have decided: we ARE making "AVA", this spring, no matter what. Whatever money we get, the stronger the film will be in every aspect. We have worked on the script for over a year, gathering the best crew possible and now the time has come to go for it!

Other Ways You Can Help

The only way we can make “Ava” a reality is to spread the word. We need your help here too. We need you to help disperse this page and the various videos and updates we will post. Send a link to this page to everyone you know; your friends, family, colleagues, anyone, even if you cant donate. We need to up what is called the Sponsume factor. In addition to actual contributions, people liking it on facebook, google +, twitter, visiting the page etc. all give us a higher Sponsume factor.
